The Tractor Lite Project
So now I want to add lites, but I remember how the speakers got ripped
off while driving in the woods, so I want to have protection for the lights
as well. Perhaps some angle iron out front as a shield to catch any hanging
limbs or vines. We need some sketches:
We'll also need to do some math with the ohm's law triangle to see
how much current these babies are going to draw. I want 3 lights facing
forward for the bucket, and 2 lights facing backwards for the hoe.
That's 5 lights at 55 Watts each, or 275 Watts. Since P=IE, then
I=(P / E). E=12 volts. 275/12= 23 amps rounded. So my lights are
going to draw 23 amps if they are all on. This will require a Kubota alternator
upgrade, and the factory dymo only puts out 14 amps and that is already
running the existing headlights and radio. "Hello Kubota? I'd like to order..."
Actually a great place to buy the upgrade kit is from
www.tractorsmart.com . The upgrade kit is whole goods part number
BX7310A. It includes the alternator, brackets, and wires.
And we'll need to order parts and supplies to handle this high current.
Did I mention I love working with high current! Time to order some 10 Awg wire
which can handle 30 amps, and some 30 Amp relays to handle the load so all that
current isn't going through a little toggle switch.
Look, the first parts just arrived:
and out of the box
I get all of the stuff like this from Parts Express
