What is roaming?
As with any service, there are areas where there will be no
service or service will be spotty. Coverage depends on the
distance you are from the towers and whether there are any
obstructions between the phone and the tower. There are
also areas where you will be able to use your phone but you
are not in the network. These are considered roaming areas.
Your phone will display the letter R to let you know it is
in roaming. If you make any calls in the roaming area there
will be an additional charge on your bill. These roaming
calls do not deduct from your monthly minutes.
What kind of service plans are available through CT
Wireless?
We offer a variety of promotional plans that require at
least a one year contract. With the promotional plans, you
are under contract for the entire length of the commitment.
Promotional plans qualify the purchaser for a discount on
the handset price.
Can I use a handset from a different service
provider?
Our wireless service will only work on a phone purchased
from CT Wireless. When you purchase a plan and or handset
from us, we will activate the phone at that time. There is
an activation fee that is charged to activate any phone.
What is the first step to getting service?
To qualify for service from CT Wireless, we must first
perform a credit check. We reserve the right to refuse
service to anyone we cannot verify to be credit worthy.
Also, if you have telephone service with us, your bill must
be current. You cannot have CT Wireless if you owe any past
due bill to CT Communications. If we deem it necessary to
require a deposit, a security deposit of at least $200.00
is required upfront.
Do I have to pay anything up front to get
service?
At the time the phone is activated, payment for the
handset, the activation fee, any deposit needed, the
prorated amount of the current month's service plus the
full month service after is required.
What is involved in a contract?
There is an early termination fee of $150.00 if you cancel
a contract before the term has expired. With any plan you
choose, you have 14 days from the date the contract was
signed to cancel the contract without the early termination
fee. We will refund the cost of the phone providing it is
returned with all of the packaging. All refunds will be
issued after the next billing cycle is complete. The
customer will be responsible for any charges incurred
before the cancellation of the contract.
What kind of phone numbers are there?
We have Bellefontaine and Springfield phone numbers
available at this time. We are also able to port an
existing Urbana phone number over to our service.
What is HAC for Wireless Devices?
Hearing aids do not always function well
with wireless handsets. Hearing aids operate by using a
microphone to pick up sound waves, converting the sound
waves into electrical signals to be amplified. Distortion
or amplification of unwanted sound (noise) often occurs.
The FCC’s hearing aid compatibility requirements address
hearing aids that operate in either of two modes - acoustic
coupling (“M” Rating) or inductive coupling (“T” rating).
Hearing aids operating in acoustic coupling mode receive
through a microphone and then amplify all sounds
surrounding the user, including both desired sounds, such
as a telephone’s audio signal, and unwanted ambient noise.
Hearing aids operating in inductive coupling mode turn off
the microphone to avoid amplifying unwanted ambient noise,
instead using a telecoil to receive only audio signal-based
magnetic fields generated by inductive coupling-capable
telephones. The FCC’s “M” and “T” ratings indicate whether
a handset can be expected to function well with a hearing
aid and are generally marked clearly on the handset
packaging. The “M” or “T” rating does not guarantee that
the handset will function without distortion or noise, so
CT Wireless recommends that you test the handset before
purchasing.

the handsets and their HAC Rating.
CT Wireless offers HAC-compatible handsets and devices in
all major price categories, including low-cost (“C” level)
(<$100), moderate-cost (“B” level) ($100-$250), and
high-end/feature-rich (“A” level) (>$250). Costs
generally correlate with the number of features, but, if
through experience, CT Wireless finds that a certain
handset contains features that work well with hearing aids,
such as volume control, it will be labeled accordingly with
an “A” level for functionality. CT Wireless sales staff can
assist existing and prospective customers looking for a
HAC-compliant device/handset. HAC-compatible handsets and
devices vary in their inherent “levels of functionality,”
but typically at least one (1) HAC-compliant handset/device
with features and services typical of its price category
can be found that meets each customer’s price range.
